Blogger Recognition Award for Nandyz Soulshine

It’s been a wonderful and awesome week. I got nominated for not one, but two blog awards…yay!! The Blogger Recognition Award followed closely by the Sunshine Blogger Award. I am hugely honored to receive them both. Tina and Jimmy Durham of Durham’s Love, Life and Travel nominated Nandyz Soulshine for the Blogger Recognition Award. I have been following their blog for a while now and love the way they present their travel experience. The variety of keto diet recipes available on their blog is just amazing! Thank you Tina and Jimmy Durham for nominating me. The Rules for The Blogger Recognition Award are: Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog Write a post to show your award Give a brief story of how your blog started Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers Select 15 other bloggers you want to give this award to Comment on each blog and let them know you have nominated them and provide the link to the post you created. How My Blog Started: I had been geared towards leading a more close-to-nature life for a while. Looking for advice and tips that would work, I came across an amazing lot of really helpful ideas. Writing had always been a thing close to my heart and I had been dabbling in freelance writing for some time. Both these clicked together and the wonderful idea of creating a blog to motivate people towards a natural approach to holistic wellbeing was born. Being not even a year old, Nandyz Soulshine is still evolving. But, the ultimate goal is to turn it into a font of information and motivation. The driving force is promotion of mental and physical wellbeing whether through health tips, motivational soul talk, humor or art. Advice to New Bloggers: I feel I am yet too inexperienced on this platform to offer any sagacious advice to relatively new bloggers. But, I surely can share my ‘learnings’ till now. The most important thing for a blog to go anywhere is streamlined effort. Your blog’s niche, tone, audience, promotion should all be well-defined and focussed. Trying to cover too many things at any given time can be overwhelming and counter-productive. Last, but not the least, and may be the most important one – quality content creation and persistent promotion should go hand in hand. It’s a great feeling to be recognized and supported by other bloggers. Not only does it boost the morale but also offers great opportunities for connecting with other like-minded souls. Blogs I Selected for The Blogger Recognition Award: Crystal Whitlow The Country Mama Charmaine Ng Sienny Loves Drawing Holistic Alternatives for Healthier Lifestyles Berly’s Kitchen April Does That Delighted Baking Thoroughly Modern Gillie Babies to Bookworms Travel Pockets Female Traveler Brooke Brunson Hodgepodge Hippie Mummy in the Madhouse I have connected with all of you either through FB groups or your wonderful blogs. Your writings, experiences and musings have enriched my life and learning one way or the other. So, thank you and congratulations for this award. Follow my blog with Bloglovin

9 Amazing Art Blogs to Get Your Creative Mojo Back

Have you ever felt that a little push with a dash of inspirational pep talk might just be the thing to get your creativity  in motion? More often than not, I do need a gentle push to put my artistic thoughts on paper or canvas. Browsing through the web trying to see how other artists were managing this block, I chanced upon some blogs that were downright genius. These showed how discipline and perseverance can translate to so much creative satisfaction. Additionally, they also provided tremendous insight into the endless possibilities of fine art. The collection I am focusing on today will give a disciplined yet artistically fun twist to putting your creative perspective in print. So, check these out! 9 Favorite Art Blogs to Inspire Creative Outlook paintingdemos.com: This is one of my favorite art blogs. The artist along with being successful, is extremely talented and explores different mediums with equal ease. She has quite a few awards and publications to her credit. Though I am no authority on artwork, I find her artwork quite intriguing and refreshing. They encourage me to challenge my boundaries and explore, inspiring a creative imagination. This blog also offers interesting tutorials from time to time. Her style of presention makes the whole thing feel really easy and manageable. There are no missed steps. I can tackle any tree any day with pencil on paper but once I shift to watercolor, it becomes really challenging. With related articles that I found on paintingdemos, the whole thing has become way less daunting. This was my first attempt at painting a forest using watercolor following the tips from this amazing artist on her blog. alisaburke.blogspot.in: Splashes of color with the spirit of spring and rejuvenation sets a very happy note to our exploration of Alisa Burke’s vibrant blog. Her energy and love of details ooze through every one of her creations. They range from being framed to wearable to simply being etched on the walls. I loved the way she turned her bedroom wall into a beautiful expression of creativity. The tutorials are really innovative with one of them being pool noodle printing. They really set your imagination and creative mood in motion. It really has been fun experimenting with and exploring unconventional techniques. mindfulartstudio.com: This is a really interesting website with a novel approach to art journaling. I recently started keeping an art journal. While trying to find how other artists went about it, I chanced upon Amy Maricle’s blog. Her article ‘can you meditate through art’ really touched a chord in me. It is exactly how I feel while creating any of my artworks or going wild with colors on paper. My fine art journey has been self-mentored with a lot of guidance from books and other resources. But from the time I can remember, I have always been passionate about art. It transports me to a different world of peace and empowerment. That’s why irrespective of my expertise or non-expertise in the realm of fine arts, I find myself getting drawn to it automatically whenever stressed out. A peep into my art journal. sustainablycreative.com: Michael Nobbs’s daily podcasts really give you an insight on how to keep our creativity flowing in the face of odds. His journey is an inspiration. Also, it is a jab in the ribs for those letting excuses get in the way of their dreams, not creating art more often. I like this blog because of its energy to keep you geared towards creative expression. eleganceandenchantment.com: Graphic designer Michelle presents an eclectic mix of everything creative on her blog. It ignites creative inspiration through different modes. She will make you stop and think with her string of weekly inspirational quotes. Her 2015 creative challenge is a great example of finding interesting ways to explore your creative abilities. Though I was too late to join in on the fun, the ideas have stuck. Now, they have made their way into my ‘to do’ list. fineartblogger.com: Here is a sumptuous platter of outstanding creativity put together by a self-taught artist, Jesna. 5 Easy Ways to Add a Twinkle to Your Eyes

When was the last time you read the unspoken in someone’s eyes? Was it something nice and complimentary or one of the things you would have best avoided? Really hope it was the former for you 🙂 . Our eyes not only work as an indispensable window to the outer world, but also help us express loads without actually uttering a single word. Yet, what do we actually do to keep them at their best? Yes, yes I too know all about mascara, eye shadows and rest of the thingummajig, but I am talking about keeping them healthy and shining bright….like twin stars 😛 . Well, actually it doesn’t take much to care for the peepers that do so much for us. Here are a few simple ways to show some love for your eyes and a bit for yourself too! 5 Easy Ways to Get Shiny Bright Eyes Eye exercises: This can be done in 3 steps or can be done as individual exercises if you are running short on time. Start with an astonished look in your eyes and then blink 10 times rapidly as if you can’t believe what you just heard. Then close your eyes and relax for about half a minute. Repeat 2 more times. You can do this routine as many times a day as you feel like. Next, roll your eyes as if listening to your narcissistic colleague or particularly obnoxious friend. This shouldn’t be tough as you would need to be extremely lucky not to have one in your list of acquaintances 🙂 . After repeating this about 3 times clockwise and anticlockwise, look from side to side in a conspiratorial manner without turning your head. Repeat about 3 times. Lastly, close your eyes, rub your palms together to warm them up and keep them on your eyes held lightly for at least half a minute. Open your eyes slowly to feel really rejuvenated. Eat and drink: Vitamins A, C and E, antioxidants, zinc, DHA, omega-3 fatty acids all go a long way in ensuring healthy vision and reducing macular degeneration. Nuts like almonds and walnut, orange-colored fruits and vegetables like carrot, pumpkin, tomatoes and orange, green leafy vegetables, flaxseed, citrus fruits and berries are all good vegetarian sources of these goodies. For those who like their animal sources, egg yolk, turkey, salmon, anchovies, trout and mackerel are all superb sources for vision enrichment. Dairy  products contain vitamin A and zinc. Lentils and kidney beans provide zinc and bioflavonoids. Sunflower seeds are very good storehouses of vitamin E and zinc. So, take your pick for each day and enjoy as snacks or part of your meal. Cold compresses: Soreness, itchiness, swelling, redness and pain in the eyes respond wonderfully to cold compresses. These relax the blood vessels, help deal with dry eyes and also are very effective in symptom control of ocular allergies. There are 2 basic ways of doing this. Either wrap up a couple of ice cubes in a thick towel and place it on your eyes for 10 to 15 minutes. Take care not to go over 20 minutes to avoid chances of frostbite. Another method that I feel is more relaxing and comfortable, is to either lie down or tilt your head back with a soft piece of folded cloth dipped in ice-cold water or milk over your peppers. It helps loads after a tiring day staring at different sized screens. Cold cucumber, potato slices and green tea soaked cold pads for 15 to 20 minutes also work wonders for dark circles along with relaxing the eyes wonderfully. Splash: For tired eyes, splash cold water on closed eyes. This tones up the surrounding ocular muscles and helps reduce puffiness. For looking fresh with sparkly peepers throughout the day, splash cold water on closed eyes 3 to 4 times a day. After brushing your teeth in the morning, fill your mouth with water and splash cold water on closed eyes 8 to 10 times. Let the water dry on its own. It won’t only brighten up your eyes immediately but also help replenish moisture of your facial skin, giving you a nice glow. Eyewear: Using good quality eyewear is essential to maintain your eyesight and avoid unnecessary strain.  Some shades might look awesome on you, but if the lenses aren’t good quality and have power, it would do more harm than help. Though it might protect your eyes from UV rays, it would adversely affect your vision causing eye strain and might even make you feel queasy after a while. An easy way to check the lenses is holding the sunglasses at arm’s length and comparing what you can see through it with visual outside the lens. If both of these match, then you are good to go. Headaches and screwing up your peppers unknowingly while reading or concentrating on any sort of digital screen might be indicative of eyesight issues. It would be a good idea to visit an opthalmologist to prevent further worsening. Low-powered glasses in time can save getting magnified to nine 😛 .   ‘Eyes are the windows to our soul’ …health and state of mind. Bright eyes indicate a lively personality and a robust health to support it. In our daily rush to keep our physique in shape, weight under control and even meditating to keep the mind healthy and calm, the one important body part that mostly gets ignored is the eye. It takes very little effort and time to keep them twinkling with wellness and peaceful joy. Easy eye exercises, relaxing tips and a bit of precaution go a long way in maintaining the ever-so-useful vision, which we take for granted. It’s time to show some love for your eyes today!   What do you do to relax tired eyes? Would you prefer to go for spectacles or contact lenses if needed? Follow my blog with Bloglovin

How to Banish Brittle, Dull, Damaged Hair Naturally – Easy Hair Care

Do you too sometimes wonder why taking care of your hair has to be such a chore? With stress almost an integral part of our life, having not a very healthy lifestyle and using things packed, tinned or canned, our hair seems to have become one of the biggest victims of modern life. Healthy and gorgeous hair is a combination of both internal and external care. It is one of the very visible health indicators of our body. Shiny, luscious hair usually indicates good health whereas dull, limp, thinning hair points to some detected or undetected health issue. So much so that hair care has become quite a thriving industry. However, as someone very rightly said, the simplest solutions are usually the best ones. Though this was said with regards to solving murder mysteries, I feel the advice holds true here too 🙂 . So, here are a few simple and easy ways of dealing with nagging hair problems the age-old way. It is interesting to know that some of these natural remedies have been doing the rounds for decades in many cultures around the world. 9 Ways to Use Usual Pantry Suspects for Gorgeous Hair – Easy Hair Care Honey: This is a great natural hair conditioner and moisturizer that tackles dandruff pretty effectively. It makes dealing with scalp and hair dryness quite easy. Try honey therapy to deal with your off-and-on dandruff situation. Massage damp hair and scalp with honey, let it sit for 3 hours and then wash off with your regular shampoo. For chronic conditions, you may need additional medical attention. To use it as a conditioner for gorgeous hair, add 1 teaspoon honey to 4 cups water and use it as leave-in conditioner after shampooing. Else, apply equal parts honey and olive oil to damp hair. Do this half an hour before shampooing your hair. Effective hair care doesn’t seem so tough now, does it? Coriander: Along with being great for full-body detoxification, coriander also works wonders as a hair care product when applied topically. It is a rich source of potassium and sodium too, which are great for hair health and maintenance. The anti-fungal and antiseptic components of coriander (cilantro) help deal with dandruff and scalp germs effectively that might be causing itching or hair fall. Coriander juice can be applied directly to the scalp an hour or two before shampooing your hair. You can also make it a part of your hair care regimen by massaging coriander-infused oil into your scalp and leaving it overnight. Do this twice a week to stimulate hair growth and re-growth. To make coriander-infused oil, crush a handful of coriander seeds and mix it into a cup of oil (olive, almond or coconut oil). Keep it aside for 15-20 days and then start using it. Ginger: Fresh ginger is believed to be quite effective as a hair re-growth stimulant as well as helpful in reducing hair fall when applied topically. Being a natural remedy it takes patience and the results do vary from person to person. But, like onion and garlic, it is used as a natural remedy for hair problems in many cultures. Apply ginger juice directly to the scalp half an hour before shampooing your hair. However, if you have sensitive skin, it would be a better idea to mix it with your regular hair oil and then massaging it into your scalp. Do this about 2-3 times a week according to your hair wash schedule. Banana: In addition to many health benefits, banana also offers beauty perks when applied topically. It easily tackles loads of hair worries like dullness, roughness, splitting, breakage and more. Banana is a very good source of antioxidants, vitamin C and other emollients essential for healthy tresses. It is rich in potassium and also maintains hair’s elasticity reducing breakage and split ends. Make a smooth, lump-free paste of 2 ripe or over-ripe bananas, 2 tablespoons oil (can be almond, olive or coconut), 1 tablespoon honey and 2-3 tablespoons of yoghurt or full-cream milk. Work this paste into your hair and scalp making sure to cover everything properly and thickly. Put on a shower cap and let it sit for half an hour to one hour. Rinse and shampoo it off for silky, smooth and nourished hair. Aloe vera: Aloe vera is one of nature’s most popular panacea. It works wonderfully whether ingested, applied topically or simply kept as an indoor plant. This wonder plant can be used in many ways to get gorgeous and healthy hair. It has anti-fungal properties and also balances the pH level of skin. Take a cup of aloe vera juice and work it through your scalp and hair after shampooing as a leave-in conditioner. This will also help with scalp itching and dandruff. For silky soft and truly moisturized hair, use an overnight aloe vera hair mask. Mix equal quantities of aloe gel and your favorite hair oil. Massage completely into your hair and scalp. Leave it overnight and shampoo it off next morning. You can also use aloe vera gel instead of your regular hair fixing gel. Apple cider vinegar: Like aloe vera, apple cider vinegar too is multifaceted in offering us health and beauty benefits. Along with fixing the pH balance of our skin, it also works as a wonder hair care agent for untangled, luscious locks. Mix a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a couple cups of water and use it as a final rinse after shampooing your hair. As a leave-in conditioner, it will give you gorgeous, shiny hair. Bottle gourd: Bottle gourd is rich in vitamins B and C, sodium and potassium – all great ingredients for hair care. Because of it’s vitamin C content, it is also acts as a great anti-oxidant, stripping toxins away. You can get bottle gourd juice easily by peeling, grinding and then squeezing the pulp. As bottle gourd is more than 90% water, this is a very simple task. Add 2 tablespoons

True Art – What Do you Mean?

What does art really mean? It conjures up different images for different people. To me, it is the expression of self that begins where the oratory skills hit a roadblock. To others, it may be the other way round – a conversation starter that hooks in an audience and from there, their flourishing way with words takes over. I believe art to be the finery with which you take your skills to a new height of beauty. Creativity in it’s varied forms becomes more subjective than objective. So, why don’t we explore the potentials of this word together and see where it takes us? art is the finery with which you take your skills to a new height of beauty (click to tweet). Avatars of Art Art is not just paint on canvas or an expertly crafted blob of clay or metal. It is many things. It is your engaging way with words or your wizard skills at entertaining guests, and may be even flawlessly balancing work and home. Artists can hide in myriad forms and it takes another to identify them. For instance, can you see the beauty in the effortlessness with which a team member at work offers innovative solutions to tricky problem? Well, that is art and there is an artist hidden in you for being able to identify that! May be, there is a bit envy mixed in this particular case 🙂 , but you get what I am saying…right? Understanding art in its boundless form makes the world seem like a totally different place. (click to tweet) How Does an Artistic Outlook Really Help? It actually is what thinking out of the box is really about. An artistic perspective on things helps us see the glass half full, beauty even in squalor. Also, it affords us a glimpse of the yet-unseen aspects of things that are totally run-of-the-mill. It unleashes our imagination, leading to innovations that make our life either simpler or better. As Albert Einstein very aptly said, “Logic will take you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.” He surely would know, right? 🙂 An artistic bend of outlook offers us unique ways to communicate our inner feelings. They offer a vent for thoughts that are too big to fit into our somewhat limited vocabulary. And the best, it offers a handy escape from reality when a quick getaway is simply not possible. Sometimes, it even substitutes meditation for me. Art is a catalyst amplifying potentials and expanding your horizons. Is it because of the preconceived notions that we have been brought up on of what art means, broadly speaking? Are preconceived notions good for us in giving a reference point to our thoughts or do they create a somewhat rigid box for our imagination to work in? If we really open up our mind to the possibilities, I wonder what varied shades of creativity we can see! After all, there is art even in the mundane things of life like balancing work and home or even taking selfies. With so much to explore – perhaps that’s how the world seems to a toddler taking baby steps exploring the world around. To me, art is the ultimate capacity to conjure up tangible samples of what your boundless imagination can carve up.
